Founder Story

My mom ran a massage studio in Los Angeles for 14 years. SEOMATA is one thing I did for her — and for owners like her.

I'm the founder of SEOMATA. First-generation immigrant, Chinese SEO engineer, son of a massage studio owner. I took the SEO playbook I used at public companies and built it for my mother — and now for 1,200+ Chinese massage owners across the US.

Turned my mom's pain points into a platform

Story

1

Ch. 1 — A 14-year studio in San Gabriel Valley

My mom ran a massage studio in San Gabriel Valley for 14 years. She didn't speak English. But her hands were great — clients drove 40 minutes from Beverly Hills just to see her. She never touched Google, never heard of SEO. Every client came through word of mouth.

Things changed in 2018. A Massage Envy franchise opened next door — $70/month membership, national brand, English website, Google Ads running 24/7. Within a year, my mom lost 30% of her new clients. She didn't know what hit her. She just thought "young people don't do massage anymore."

2

Ch. 2 — She paid an "expert agency" $4,500/mo and got nothing

In 2020 an English marketing agency cold-called her, said they could rank her on Google. $4,500/mo, 6-month contract. The reports were English PDFs — "impressions," "CTR," "backlinks." She didn't understand any of it.

Six months later, bookings dropped from 90 to 75. She cried. She told me: "I can afford it. I just feel cheated. And I can't even argue with them in English." I was a senior SEO lead at a public company by then, but I realized: **teaching my mom to read a GSC report is harder than teaching my CEO.** Language wasn't the real barrier — culture and decision paths were.

3

Ch. 3 — I rebuilt it in 3 months, zero budget

I took 3 months off and rebuilt her presence from scratch. Bilingual site, service-split pages (deep tissue, reflexology, prenatal, sports recovery, tuina, neck-shoulder). Skipped the "massage near me" arms race against Massage Envy. Hunted hyper-local terms: "San Gabriel Asian massage," "Rowland Heights tuina," "Arcadia prenatal massage."

Fixed her GBP category (it was mis-tagged as "Adult" — most common disaster for Chinese massage studios). Officially appealed 6 malicious Yelp 1-stars. Earned 4 local backlinks from Chinese associations and a nearby church.

Three months later: bookings back to 130, top-3 on Maps for "San Gabriel massage." She asked: "Son, can you do this for my friend Lily in Arcadia?"

4

Ch. 4 — Lily. Then Vivian, Helen, David…

My mom had 30+ Chinese massage owners in her WeChat group. After Lily came Vivian, Helen, David. By late 2023 I'd done audits, GBP appeals, and Yelp response rewrites for 60+ studios in my spare time.

I noticed: the problems are **highly repetitive** — wrong GBP category, broken English Yelp replies, no idea how to compete with Massage Envy, no data to pick the next city, no AI-search strategy. These aren't personal failures. They're a **systemic gap shared by an entire generation of Chinese immigrant owners**.

And no SEO company in the US market is built for them. Every tool is English. Every report is English. Every salesperson is English.

5

Ch. 5 — So I built SEOMATA

SEOMATA isn't "another SEO agency." SEOMATA is a **Google growth platform built specifically for Chinese-immigrant massage studio owners in the US**.

We track 12,000+ Chinese/Asian massage studios across 60+ cities. Our keyword library is built around "service × micro-geography × Chinese clientele." Reports are Chinese PDFs. Monthly WeChat video reviews. Every advisor is first-gen immigrant — they understand licensing, landlords, therapist visas, sting operations, and why you can't take male cold-calls during the day.

What we do is turn the 3 months I spent on my mom into a machine that runs predictably, at scale, for 1,000+ Chinese owners.

Founder promises

Three founder promises

I've signed paper commitments with every SEOMATA team member on these three. If we break any of them, WeChat me directly (seomata). I'll handle it personally.

1. Chinese delivery, zero translation loss

Every report, every WeChat video call, every ticket reply — in Chinese. Our keyword tools, ROI dashboards, email templates are fully Chinese. No more "English PDFs at midnight asking your kids to translate."

2. Massage industry only — we refuse cross-vertical work

SEOMATA does not take med spas, nail salons, restaurants, or law firms. All team focus, keyword libraries, and industry benchmarks go into massage / SPA / bodywork studios. That focus is the only reason we can be the best at this.

3. No artificial price walls — priced by studio stage

SEOMATA starter plan is $1,500/mo — far below most English agencies' $3,000+ entry. We believe an 8-year-old Chinese massage studio deserves access to a real SEO company. We use scale and AI to keep cost down, so you get affordable but not cut-rate service.

Our beliefs

What we believe

Chinese owners deserve to be understood

For 30+ years, Chinese immigrants have built massage businesses in the US — supporting families, putting kids through college. This generation deserves a tech company that actually gets them.

Local SEO is a business lifeline, not marketing mysticism

Google decides how many calls, bookings, and walk-ins you get every day. That shouldn't be a black box. Our reports tell you which keyword brought each new client and how much revenue they generated in-studio.

AI is here — Chinese studios cannot be late again

ChatGPT and Perplexity already answer "best massage near me." We use 8 years of SEO experience + custom AI workflows to ensure Chinese studios get named in AI answers too. This is the next wave. We won't miss it.
